De DIPA, ofwel de Double IPA, is het sterke broertje van de gewone India Pale Ale. Meer mout, meer alcohol, en meer hop. Meer hop is nodig om balans te geven aan de zoete tonen van het sterkere bier. De klassieke Double IPA heeft een stevige bitterheid, maar tegenwoordig zie je steeds meer DIPA's met tonen van tropisch fruit en een relatief lage bitterheid. Uiteindelijk is de Double IPA meer een 'in your face' bier, met grote smaken, en daarom zie je ook dat dit biertype steed populairder wordt.
