Wit & Weizen Bier

White & Weizen

Wheat beer and Weizen may look similar, but there is a big difference between these 2 beers. Although they are both brewed with wheat, and they are wonderful to drink when it is nice and warm outside, they are still very different.

A wheat beer is a classic Belgian beer. Traditionally it is brewed with unmalted wheat. This gives it a fresh, slightly acidic character. Orange peel and coriander are then added, which emphasizes the freshness and spiciness of the beer.

A weizen can be brewed with either malted or unmalted wheat, but the secret lies in the special Weizen yeast that is used. This yeast gives the beer notes of banana and cloves. Weizen beers are generally a bit fuller, with a nice, firm foam and of course with the characteristic notes of banana.
