The Baltic Porter has an interesting history. The base comes from the traditional English porter. Because of its popularity, it was exported on a large scale, also to the areas around the Baltic Sea and Northern Europe. Over time, countries such as Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, etc. started to imitate this beer style, but with the native ingredients. This meant, among other things, the use of lager yeasts. This makes the classic Baltic Porter a low-fermentation beer, but one with a solid alcohol percentage!
