Oak Aged Batch 22 is largely matured in German Single Malt barrels. This whiskey is considerably softer and less 'peated' than its Scottish counterparts, making batch 22 much smoother than previous batches matured in whiskey barrels.
In addition to the malty and smoked scent, banana, vanilla, honey, apple and blossom scents can also be distinguished. The whiskey is clear but not overpowering, so the La Trappe Quadrupel remains clearly recognizable. This results in a harmonious blend of flavors, releasing aromas of almond and smoke. Batch 22 is full of flavor and very complex; with every sip new taste associations seem to emerge. The alcohol is clearly present in the aftertaste together with the bitterness of wood tannin, which lingers for some time. This batch may not be the most extreme batch, but its complexity and harmonious overall taste make it highly recommended.
