IPA & Hoppig

If you're looking for hops, you're looking for IPA. No beer contains more hops than the famous India Pale Ale. This beer style has been around for some time, more than 200 years, but in the past 50 years it has been completely rediscovered and reinvented.

Tradition states that the India Pale Ale was a variant of the 'normal' pale ale, which had to survive the journey from England to India. To ensure that the beer did not arrive completely sour and spoiled, the beer was brewed with a higher alcohol percentage and more hops, two methods to keep the beer good for longer. Ultimately, this beer was so popular that it has become its own style. The IPA we know today cannot be compared to the IPAs of the past. Modern IPAs are an American invention, developed around the 1980s. American hop varieties are characteristic for the citrus notes they give off, and so IPAs were developed with notes of citrus and grapefruit, but also with a strong bitterness. Over the past 15 years, it has exploded again, and today we know the New England IPA (hazy and super fruity), Session IPA (can be drunk all day long), Black IPA (brewed with dark malt and contains notes of coffee). and chocolate), White IPA (brewed with wheat), Milkshake IPA (contains lactose and is thick and creamy), Cold IPA (fermented with a lager yeast at a low temperature) and so on.
