The DIPA, or Double IPA, is the strong brother of the regular India Pale Ale. More malt, more alcohol, and more hops. More hops are needed to balance the sweet notes of the stronger beer. The classic Double IPA has a strong bitterness, but nowadays you see more and more DIPAs with notes of tropical fruit and a relatively low bitterness. Ultimately, the Double IPA is more of an 'in your face' beer, with great flavours, which is why you see that this beer type is becoming increasingly popular.
